What Happens When Your Email Sequence Ends?

Most email marketing advice is about getting people onto your list.

Far less is said about what happens afterwards.

Last night’s Wednesday Profit Clinic inside The ClickBank Profit Club was about exactly that: email follow-up once your automated sequence has finished. It made me think about a gap I hadn’t really planned for.

In my last post, [Why Buying Another Course Will Not Fix It], I wrote about why a system beats piling up more information. This post looks at one part of that system I had been taking for granted.

The Part Nobody Plans For

Picture it.

You spend a few months building an email list. You put the time in, perhaps some money too. People join, receive your automated emails and get to know you a little.

Then the sequence finishes.

And they never hear from you again.

John, who ran the session, said this is what some people actually do. I can see how it happens. Once the automated emails are set up, it feels like the job is done.

The trouble is that people forget. Leave it long enough and when you finally do send something, the reaction is “Who is this?” Some unsubscribe. Some hit the spam button, which is worse.

I haven’t built my list yet. That is exactly why this caught my attention. I would rather think about it now than discover the problem six months in.

Is More Traffic Always the Answer?

When sales are slow, the usual first thought is “I need more traffic.”

Sometimes that’s right. If nobody sees your offer, you will struggle.

John’s point was that more traffic won’t fix weak follow-up.

Say you have 100 leads who have shown an interest, and after the first few automated emails they never hear from you again. You could go and get another 100, or another 500. But if every batch is treated the same way, you are just repeating the same leak on a bigger scale.

John said that in his experience it is easier to sell to an existing lead or customer than to go out and find a new one. The question he put to everyone was a simple one: are you looking after the leads you’ve already got?

It ties in with something I wrote in [Do I Need a List Already to Make Affiliate Marketing Work?]: making better use of the traffic you already have, rather than constantly chasing more.

What the Session Covered on Email Follow-Up

John went through what should happen when your sequence ends: who to email, what to send, how often, and how to tell whether it’s working.

He also shared updates to the club’s own automated follow-up, showed how to spot which subscribers are ready for regular broadcast emails, and walked through a simple email follow-up strategy.

I’m not going to repeat the detail here. That is for members, and it is John’s to share rather than mine.

One practical point I will pass on, because it’s so easy to miss: check the basics first. Is your autoresponder connected? Have you actually added the sequence?

What I Am Taking From It

It’s the same simple flow I keep coming back to:

Traffic → Page → Email List → Follow-Up → Relevant Offer

What this session changed for me is the Follow-Up step. I had been thinking of it as the automated sequence and nothing more. It’s really an ongoing conversation, and the sequence is only the start of it. That ongoing contact is what gives a list a chance to do more than produce the odd one-off commission.

John also mentioned that something new is being launched later this week. I don’t know what it is yet. Once I know more, I’ll share it here.

The Profit Clinic runs every week, and the replays are available to anyone who joins [The ClickBank Profit Club] including in the free membership.

Honestly, this is the standard of training I would normally expect to pay for. Getting it for free still surprises me a little.
